The Challenge: How do we empower students to successfully complete an unfamiliar discussion style on a complex, scaffolding topic?
Background: This project involved information and interests from a number of different stakeholders. These included the SME, the enterprise architecture project manager, various technologist, and an external vendor.
The Solution: As the primary curriculum specialist for this project, I served as the go-between to help translate the technical goals and project vision to the SME, while also ensuring that the integrity of the SME’s original intent for the course content remained intact.
I used and created several resources to complete this tasks and to help students complete the assignment effectively.
- Project/process management:
- Microsoft Planner – hub for organizing project milestones and tracking progress/completion.
- Regular meetings with internal and external project stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and progress by agreed-upon deadline.
- Course content redevelopment:
- Design document to document items changing as a result of the discussion style revision, effects of revision, related learning outcomes, technology needed to help students, and training materials to support students
- Revised assignment instructions and grading rubrics
- Redesigned video discussion recording guide
- Video walkthrough of how to complete process successfully
- Tools used: Adobe Premiere Pro, Audacity audio editor, Canva graphics editor)
